This is a flexible strip of 60 LEDs per meter that is digitally addressable. This means that you can control each LED individually, allowing you to do things like set each LED's red, green, and blue with 8-bit precision. It can be controlled with a programmable controller that understands the protocol it uses - typically an Arduino Uno or Mega microcontroller at 8 MHz or higher, Raspberry Pi, Beagle Bone Black, Propeller, or other interpreted/virtual machine microcontroller/processor.
You can also use this LED tape with a DMX512 controller that supports the protocol it uses, enabling you to operate this strip from up to 300m away. This is the only way to achieve true long-range operation. This is a 5V strip, but it can be joined together or cut into smaller lengths.
